Police in the United Kingdom fined UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for failing to wear a seatbelt while driving. Lancashire Constabulary issued a "conditional offer of fixed penalty" to Sunak, who was shooting a social media clip at the time of the violation.

According to a Downing Street official, the British leader "will of course comply" with the punishment. "The Prime Minister fully recognizes that this was a mistake," the spokeswoman stated. Sunak's spokeswoman had stated on Thursday that Sunak apologized for a "short lapse in judgment" while filming an Instagram video in northern England, and advised people to use seatbelts.
