Israeli police are investigating a possible hate crime after a Palestinian home in the West Bank was set on fire by masked attackers. The incident followed two terror attacks in Jerusalem, resulting in the death of seven Israelis and injury to five more. To prevent further hate crimes against Palestinians, security forces took preventive measures, including putting troops on high alert for possible incitement. The Shin Bet and the Jerusalem police were reportedly mapping out potential hate crimes, including assaults, vandalism, and setting fire to Muslim holy places. A security official stated that the suspected hate crime in Turmus Ayya is dramatic, and leaders' words now have great importance in calming the situation. The Shin Bet and police were involved in preventing hate crimes in 2014 after a Palestinian teen was kidnapped and murdered by Jewish extremists in response to the murder of three Israeli youths by Palestinian terrorists. The Shin Bet's counterterror unit is believed to be working to identify extremists who may plan revenge crimes against Palestinians.
